I’m starting a new “thing”. Every morning, starting at 11:30, I’m going to sit down and have a cup of coffee/cocoa/russian tea with Jesus. See what we need to talk about, who I need to be praying for, what I need to be reading…things like that. Today was the first day. It’s still happening but it’s going pretty great! Listening to some music, enjoying some russian tea…and READIN’ SOME SCRIPTURE!!! I felt compelled to turn to Isaiah 52 today and…Hosanna…it was just what I needed!
I talked in my last post about God “knowing” ahead of us and “going” with us. But it’s a three dimensional God we serve! Isaiah 52:12 is telling the captive Israelites about their impending deliverance.
“You will not leave in a hurry, running for your lives. For the LORD will go ahead of you; yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind.”
So let’s break this down a little bit:
At any point and time on a journey, there are three distinct locations that can be determined: where you were, where you are, and where you’re going. In Hebrews 13:5, God promises, “Never will I leave you…”. That being said, it is to be understood that God IS where we were, where we are, and where we’re going. It’s so hard for people to believe in a God that is big enough to cover the were, are, and going. But it’s not JUST God that is in our were, are, and going (w.a.g.)…it’s the aspect of God we most need in the stages of w.a.g.
In our going…God is concierge.
A hotel owner, a massage therapist, a captain of comfort. He goes ahead of us to prepare a place. A place for us to rest…to be comfortable after our trails and tribulations in our are. He knows that we face persecution, heartbreak, disease, death, and so many other things and He wants to see us seated comfortably in His presence when He says, “Well done…my good and faithful servant.”
In our are…God is a friend.
A companion, an amgio, a comrade. He stays with us through the good and the bad and fights along side us to get through to the going and past the were. “Friends will bail you out…but true friends will be beside you saying, ‘THAT WAS FUN!!!'” That’s how God is in our are. He’s right there, holding our hand, wiping the sweat from our brow shouting…”LET’S DO IT AGAIN!!!”
In our were…God is a warrior.
A bodyguard, a soldier, a protector. Friends say, “I got your back.” And they do a good human job. But in this passage from Isaiah…we found out that the God who created everything in this world has said, “I got your back.” There truly is no reason to fear our past…the people or mistakes from it…knowing that God is in our were, protecting us from behind!
